The WAR Horses

Giselle

Giselle is a 19-year-old Holsteiner mare by Quantum, out of a Capitol mare that I’ve has owned for nearly 9 years now. Giselle is my first real competitive horse. I knew I was going to buy her when I jumped her for the first time – she has personality, speed and clocks on to a fence from a mile away. Over the years we have competed predominately in show jumping but she has proven to be a great all-rounder, too, turning her toes to some low-level dressage, hunting and the odd one-day event. She is currently in foal to Derryronane Stud’s DS Shotgun (Comthago x VDL Harley) and is due to foal at the end of March, 2021.

Solas

Solas is the original Wild Atlantic seahorse. Now at the age of 23, I have owned him since he was a 2-year-old. He is by a son of the great Irish draught sire, King Elvis and is out of a Connemara x Welsh pony mare. He was born and bred on the hill of Glosh, overlooking our home! Growing up we spent most of our time on the beach and we did not start competing until I was in my early 20s. Unfortunately, an accident coming home from a show ended his competition days. He has spent the last few years enjoying a quieter life of hacking and beach rides, while regularly attempting to buck me off even still in his twenties!

Luca

Luca is my new 3-year-old Irish Sport horse gelding by Caricello and out of a Fernhill Vriend mare. I came home with him last year after I went to view his 3-year-old sister and decided to take a chance on a 2-year-old gelding instead! With both eventers and showjumpers on both side of his pedigree I am aiming to bring him up through the levels of showjumping and hopefully some eventing, too. I have just started his training and he is proving to be a quick and eager learner. He has a very good temperament and a super step so I have high hopes for his future.
